Progress Report: Winding Down for Fall

My summer was busy. There were a few personal upheavals, and writing projects seemed to begin and end in a constant infinity loop. Fall is fast approaching, and with it is a desire to calm down a little. Let’s just hope my life gets the memo!

Most of the summer has been spent working on my next novel and putting the finishing touches on Little Paranoias: Stories. The latter seems to finally be done on my end, at least in terms of pre-release prep. Review copies are out, and I’ve made all the final corrections and gotten them back from Doug.

Little Paranoias: Stories will be out in ebook and paperback on October 22 — and you can preorder the ebook right now! Yay!

Ahead of the release, though, you’ll see ARCs (advance review copies) in the wild on social media. I’ve been loving pictures of reviewers taking selfies with the book and its amazing skull illustration. I’ve shared several on my own Instagram page (I’d embed them directly here, but WordPress isn’t reading the embed code correctly, boo).

The collection also received its first review on Goodreads: 4 out of 5 stars from reviewer Valerie Dorsey! Give her review a read, and don’t forget to shelve Little Paranoias: Stories on Goodreads if you haven’t done so.

With pre-release prep out of the way, I’m turning my focus back to Seeing Things, my third novel. As with any new writing project, I’m having to force myself to sit down and work on it, which has been hard given how hard this past summer has been. Since the end of August, though, I’ve been feeling a slow sense of calming down in the air and in my soul. While I’m hoping that extends to my sense of well-being in general, I also hope it will give me the patience to see this new story through.

Let’s Get Social: Facebook

Over the weekend, I caught up with 2008 and set up a Facebook page. Previously, I created a page for The Crow’s Gift and Other Tales. Rather than set up pages for each of my books, I figured it’d be more efficient to just have an author page.

So, here it is! Right now you’ll see links to all three of my published works. Over the coming weeks, I’ll post quick updates on upcoming projects, ones too long for Twitter, too wordy for Instagram, and too quick for this blog.

Let’s Get Social: Instagram

I am on a select few social media sites. Twitter and Goodreads take up a good chunk of my time, Twitter moreso than Goodreads. However, I’ve recently given in to another platform and joined Instagram.

Given its visual focus, my posts there are less about my writing; but I invite you all to follow me there all the same. Writing-wise, I’ll be sharing book covers, illustrations, and who knows, maybe seemingly random pictures that inspire me. I’ll definitely share pictures of the outdoors, food, beer, and my view for the day at Capitals games.

Let’s Get Social: Goodreads

A couple weeks ago, I shared some ways to connect apart from this blog. I wanted to add one space where I’m a recent dweller: Goodreads.

I’ve seen Goodreads pop up here and there, mostly through my friends updating their progress on books or my favorite authors promoting giveaways. I joined when two friends wanted to use it to discuss the books we read together.

Since then, I’ve used it pretty much for the activities I saw other people do — update on my reading progress and enter giveaways. I also write brief reviews of the books I finish and log on the site. I have yet to write retroactive reviews of stuff I read before joining, but that may come later.

Let’s Get Social

It’s a busy week at my day job, and most of my writing over the past week has been pieces that will eventually become a story. That’s always the goal, but I prefer writing more about them on the blog when they’ve settled into a proper groove. Right now they’re in the Sporadic Paragraph Stage, hanging out in random Word docs or the notebook I keep in my purse.

I may not be writing enough to post story updates on the blog today, but I am writing in a few other places. I wanted to take some time to invite you to join me there.

My Twitter page (also linked to in this site’s banner) is quite active. While I do talk about writing, it’s also a space where I talk hockey (Go Caps), television+movies (expect short versions of this post when I’m watching something), beer (drinking and writing about it), politics (no rants but plenty of thoughts), and work grievances. Work grievances are especially fun and loaded with GIFs – and some of my thoughts on boring meetings provided the blueprint for passages in the book. If any or all of these sound up your alley, or even if you just want to connect on Twitter, give me a follow – I’d love to hear from you.

I also blog semi-regularly for Stouts and Stilettos, a women’s beer blog. Most of my posts are beer reviews, conference/event reviews, and beercation guides (beercations are totally a thing).
